bonk!

I was in the middle of writing a new blog entry which described all the new and spectacular feats our Benjamin has accomplished, at which point I figured I should probably stop and pay a bit more attention to the toddler screeching down near my feet. It turns out he was screaming at me because he had discovered something new and he wanted to know what it was called. This, it seems lately, is what Benjamin does – he points at all kinds of stuff and says “iss” or “dat”, which of course means “what’s this?” and “what’s that?” (in case you don’t speak 17-month Old English). So, like fools, his mother and I tell him what it is he is pointing at (more times than not I get the feeling he’s just pointing at thin air to toy with our wits). So we tell him that he is directing his finger at a wall, or a chair, or a ball, or a book. And sometimes, sometimes, he manages to point to an element of his body. Hazaa! [evil grin] This is where daddy is master. . .

I have helped teach Benjamin many a body part, including feet, hands, nose and mouth, but for some odd reason “donk” just doesn’t seem to stick. Something tells me that ma-ma isn’t reinforcing that particular lesson while I am away at work.

When we point to our skulls and ask Ben what this is, instead of “head” he says “bonk!” as he charges your midsection with his head tilted like a rhino.

But instead of writing Ben’s other body parts in this blog, I’ll let them simply be seen, and heard, from Benjamin himself (i'll leave it to you to figure what he says at the end. . .):
